Packing the 10,000

“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:3Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.17.48 AM

On Friday, May 22nd, RCS Students grades Pre-kindergarten-12th grade came together to pack 10,000 meals through the Meals of Hope Pack-A-Thon program. As a way to wrap up the 2015 RCS Helping Hands Fundraiser, RCS students, staff, and families took time out of their school day and work schedule to give back to our community and beyond!

Once students hands were sanitized and gloves and hair nets were assembled, RCS students formed lines to measure ingredients, fill and weigh meal packets, seal each meal, stack, count and assemble into boxes. As 12th graders paired with 5th graders, 8th graders paired with 1st graders, and so on, meals began to pile high and friendships sparked between our elementary and secondary students. Questions like “what’s your favorite sport?,” “what team do you play on?,” and “what do you like to do for fun?,” were asked and conversations carried on throughout the event.

The idea behind the Pack-A-Thon stems from the hope that our students would understand how blessed they are to attend Riverside Christian School and would then create a desire in their hearts to give back to the community that supports this school. The Helping Hands Pack-A-Thon is a hands on project, where students work together to create meals that will be distributed throughout the Valley.

Before the day was over, all RCS students and staff came together to pray over the boxes of meals to bless them and their recipients. At this time, our 2015 RCS Haiti Missions team was recognized and the student body surround the 18 students and 2 staff members and commissioned them for their travels in late June.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19
