6 Family Fun Events in August

Can you believe it? School is starting in less than a month and we are so excited to begin the 2015-2016 school year! However, we want to encourage our RCS families and their friends to get out and enjoy the last bits of summer. Stuck on what to do? Here are 6 fun events to enjoy as a family before the school year starts!

1. Outdoor Summer Cinema Series – Chesterley Park (40th and River Rd.)

Bring your blankets,    lawn chairs, and snacks and enjoy a flick with the fam.  
This event is fee to attend with each movie beginning at 8:30pm.
Here is the Cinema Series Schedule: 
August 9th: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day! (PG)
August 16th: Hunger Games Mocking Jay pt. 1 (PG-13)
August 23rd: When the Game Stands Tall (PG)

2. Tour d’Park  – Sarg Hubbard Park
Get in gear and participate in a 3 mile bike event on August 8 at Sarg Hubbard Park. The Tour d’Park will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the park. Children can ride for $5 and families will pay $25. Kids will receive a free t-shirt. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult on the ride.  Riders can register day of event.

3. Hot Shots 3-on-3 Tourney – Downtown Yakima
On August 29th and 30th hit the streets of downtown Yakima for the 13th Annual Hot Shots 3-on 3 Tournament. Watch some great competition and all the fun from both youth and adult teams! Hot Shots helps support the work of the Sports Commission in marketing the Yakima Valley as a sports event destination throughout the Pacific Northwest. Come and enjoy the fruits of the Yakima Valley’s bountiful harvest. 

4. Pippins Game – Yakima County Stadium
Catch the Pippins last home appearance for the regular 2015 season from August 7-9th as they take on the Wenatchee Applesox. Games begin at 7:05pm. Tickets: $5-7 (presale and $1 more at the gate).

5. Franklin Park Outdoor Pool – Franklin Park
Beat the heat and cool off at the Franklin Pool.  Recreational Swim is open from 12:30-6:30p.m. and 7-9:00 p.m M-F until August 23rd and Saturday and Sundays Recreational Swim from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Don’t forget to stop by the Yakima Valley Museum Soda Fountain and grab some ice cream before you leave! 

6. Ride the Trolley: Explore Yakima from the view of a historic trolley. The Yakima Trollety runs  Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays through Sunday, September 27, 2015. Trolleys leave the Car barn at South 3rd Avenue and Pine Street in Yakima between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. 2015 fares when operating on the Pine Street line: Adults $6.00 . Children (12 and under) $4.00. Child on lap -Free. Seniors (60 and older) $4.00. Learn more here.
