Partnership with Bricks 4 Kidz Brings S.T.E.M. to Elementary Students

“We learn, we build, we play with Lego Bricks.” That’s the motto of Bricks 4 Kidz and that is exactly what happens each Tuesday that participating RCS students come to learn from the Bricks 4 Kidz Yakima Sessions: learning, building, and playing!

Bricks 4 Kidz uses LEGO bricks to kick start student’s interest in S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering, and math) and create a positive and fun association to science by building exciting motorized models! Bricks 4 Kidz allows RCS students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade to take classes once a week after school and learn the fundamentals of learning to build working systems!

In the September and October sessions, students learning the amazing and powerful forces of nature. They explored the when, where how, and why of all kinds of natural phenomenons. Each of the models they studied represented the motion of a particular weather or even with a sea for a mini figure to take in the action. The learned to build moving models of a tornado, a tsunami, and earthquake and cyclone!

Today was the start of the “Interesting Inventions” session that incorporates the objects we use on a daily basis. Throughout this session they will learn and discuss difference inventions that were created to problem solve and will find out how inventors got their ideas patented. This week students learned how to construct the conveyor belt. In the upcoming weeks they will learn the origins of and build a hand mixer, windshield wipers, and more! Each of the models they build will be motorized for maximum movement and fascination.

We are very thankful for our partnership with Bricks 4 Kidz and the opportunity it provides for our students to continue to develop their STEM skills at such an early age!
