Hour of Code Success!

Hour of Code Success!

RCS Science teacher, Mr. Steingas, reports on the success of RCS Hour of Code.  To learn more about Hour of Code read our previous post.DSC_0004“‘We did it! Hour of Code is completed here at RCS!   We had over 240 students coding this year in grades 2 through 12. Even though we are done, I know that during the first week, I had students tell me they had already gone through other activities. The students were very excited. One came and told me they had done every tutorial on the Hour of Code website. Others expressed an interest in getting into a technology field and still others said they really wanted to pursue Computer Programming as a career. Even now, a month after the RCS Hour of Code, I think some of our students are continuing to dive into some of the things they discovered over the past few weeks.

The great thing about Hour of Code was it gave us a chance to expose students to an experience that could lead them to a rewarding career. Even more important, they may have discovered they had a God-given gift in this area, and didn’t even know it. Maybe it just stirred their imagination and curiosity a little bit, or it may have been a realization that this wasn’t really an area they had any interest in pursuing. All of these reactions are valuable and part of the mission we are following here at RCS. DSC_0009
We desire that each student find what God has gifted them to do. In a world where technology now seems to permeate every crack and crevice in life, we need Christians who will grow up to influence our tech-saturated society with their Christ-centered ideas and creativity. Technology is only a tool after all, and it is my hope we are raising up a generation of young minds, centered on Jesus, who will reflect HIS mind into our modern world. Thank you for your support in bringing Hour of Code to Riverside students this year!”
