The Top 10 Things We Hear On Campus Tours

One of our favorite parts of the admissions process is meeting new families on our campus and giving them a tour of our beautiful school. For most prospective families, this is their first time on our campus and it is an absolute joy to see them experience Riverside Christian School in action. As families make their way through our beautiful facility, peeking in on our small class sizes, you can actually see the excitement grow in family’s eyes as they imagine what a difference it would make if they enrolled their students here. If you have not toured our campus yet, or if you have been a part of the RCS family for a while now, check out the top ten things we hear on campus tours:

1: Your facility is beautiful!

We are definitely blessed by our beautiful campus located in Terrace Heig11203552_840524689316775_2859980028812567909_ohts, especially with a building that houses Preschool through 12th grade.  Although we have been at our Keys Rd. campus for fourteen years, Riverside Christian School’s history spans back to the inception of the school (WestSide Christian) in 1973. With a strong legacy of quality academics, rooted in a biblical foundation of truth and discipleship, Riverside Christian is committed to excellence in all that we do.

2: Do you offer before and after school care?

Yes we do! Thanks to our awesome Bright Beginnings and After School Club Programs.  Staff we are able to provide before and after care to our students 3-4 year olds before or after their class for 4 hours from 7:45-3:15.  Kindergarten-12 years old can be in our After School Club from 3:00-5:30. Bright Beginnings serves our families who are enrolled in our half-day programs (Preschool-Kindergarten) and are in need of a full day program!

3: What sports teams do you have?

Great question! We have 16 different sports teams. You can check out those offerings here.

4: Your students and teachers are so friendly?

Aren’t they? We really are one big family here at Riverside Christian with an incredible team of teachers that love and care for their students. It is incredible to witness new students beginning their RCS journey, walking into class with a little bit of nervous fear in their eyes, become so comfortable and adjusted in a matter of hours. Time and time again, we hear new families check back in with us and say, my child loves it here!

5: Wow, I love the class sizes.

Yes, one of the many benefits of Riverside Christian School is our stDSC_0265udent-teacher ratio. On average, our student-teacher ratio is fifteen to one at RCS. That is almost half the size of public school classrooms in Washington state! This gives our teachers a huge advantage in providing one-on-one attention to their students and challenging them in their individual ways!

6: I don’t see your students in uniforms. Is there a dress code?

Correct, we do not require uniforms here. We do have a dress code in place that outlines modest attire. We believe this empowers our students with the knowledge and wisdom of how to dress appropriately and sets them up for success after their graduate from Riverside Christian.

7: How do you incorporate the Bible into school?

IMG_4050The first part of our tagline is “Rooted in Christ.” That is who we are and what our prayer is for our students as they learn and grow. All students from Preschool through Grade 12 have a required Bible class but it doesn’t stop there. Beyond students and teachers praying together as a class and worshipping together weekly in chapel, the Bible and Christian faith is incorporated into every subject matter, so it’s not just a Bible class they attend but a Biblical worldview that they develop.

8: Do you have a bussing system?

We do! We have a bussing system to Selah and around Yakima and West Valley with convenient locations for before and after school pick up and drop off.

9: Do you guys have Common Core?

DSC_0004The beauty of a private Christian school is that we are not required to follow state mandated curriculum. In regards to the Washington’s Common Core State Standards (CCSS),  we view them as a “floor and not a ceiling” of educational standards. We believe the standards overemphasize skills over content knowledge. We evaluate curriculum with a biblical lens and will not sacrifice content. Portions of the CCSS may, however, be integrated into our academic standards. As we continue to unapologetically strive to keep our students Rooted in Christ, we will work tirelessly to get our students Ready for Tomorrow by meeting and exceeding the college and career readiness anchor standards set forth by Common Core.

10: Wow, we really love what we’ve seen, but we don’t know how we will afford it. Do you have scholarships or financial aid?

Yes, indeed. To help families with the cost of education, RCS offers flexible payment plans and our Variable Tuition program. Our Variable Tuition program is just that, variable. We match your tuition rate to your family’s unique financial position. So the tuition at RCS is not a one size fits all, it’s a range. Apply for Variable Tuition today. (link)
