Canstruction Food Drive coming this May!
The Riverside Junior High/High School Engineering class is proud to present the Canstruction Food Drive. This is a unique food drive that will benefit the Union Gospel Mission. Not only will this project benefit those in need of food in our local community, this project has given our Engineering students a new and completely different task than they have ever seen before.

For the past several weeks, all students in the Engineering Class have been divided into 2 teams. These teams have been designing unique canned food sculptures, researching canned food label designs and colors, as well as prices and retail outlets for these foods. Their designs must be self-supporting and use only canned food available in our community. They have also been asked to use foods that are nutritional and provide a balanced meal.

The Food Drive runs now through Wednesday May 4. In the weeks following the food drive, the Engineering students will be practice building their structures. Then, on Friday, May 20, both teams will have 4 hours to build their final sculptures. They will then be judged in several categories by a group of community members and prizes will be awarded. One of the awards that you can help us with is the People Choice Award. There will be a voting box, where you can put your name and pick your favorite sculpture.
How can you help us with the Canstruction Food Drive 2016? There are two ways you can help:
1) Donate cans of from the list for your student’s class. Please purchase only the cans listed and the size listed. Our engineering students have found the cans at the store listed for the price listed, but there is not guarantee that they will be available or at the same cost as listed. Feel free to shop at any store of your choice, but it is important to get the specific can listed for your student’s class. The engineering students chose the cans specifically for label design and size. These cans can be delivered to your student’s teacher. 2) Donate the money so that our engineering students can purchase the canned food they need. You can do this by sending a check made out to Riverside and putting Canstruction Food Drive on the memo line.
